The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), says it will consult its internal organs before deciding on its planned nationwide protest following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, early Wednesday.

NLC President Joe Ajaero said the union’s National Executive Council and state councils would deliberate on the assurances given by the President, with a final decision expected later on Wednesday.

He stressed that decisions of the labour centre are taken collectively.

“We came for consultation with the President, and we are finished. We now have to go back to our meeting. By tomorrow, we will get the outcome,” Ajaero said.

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who attended the meeting, described the talks as part of ongoing consultations in the national interest.

Minister of State for Labour, Mrs Nkiruka Onyejeocha, said NLC leaders requested the meeting and were satisfied with the engagement, noting that they acknowledged the President’s efforts to stabilise the economy.

The meeting comes amid labour’s consultations over a proposed nationwide strike and protest over economic hardship and wage-related demands.
