Chelsea lifted some pressure off under-fire boss Enzo Maresca with a 3-1 comeback win over League One side Cardiff City on Tuesday, reaching the League Cup semi-finals.

Alejandro Garnacho put Chelsea ahead early in the second half, but Cardiff’s David Turnbull equalised with a powerful header. Late goals from Pedro Neto and Garnacho secured the victory.

The win comes days after Maresca’s remarks about a lack of “support” following Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Everton, which fueled speculation of tension with the club’s hierarchy.

Despite making 11 changes and resting key players, Chelsea weathered early threats before Garnacho’s half-time introduction turned the game in their favour.

Maresca highlighted the result, noting Chelsea had reached their “third semi-final in 18 months” under his tenure.

Chelsea, who last won the League Cup in 2015, have won only two of their last six games but remain in contention for silverware this season.
