The National Sports Commission (NSC), has confirmed it has been paying Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle’s salary on behalf of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko told Arise Television on Monday that the commission stepped in to support the NFF, despite not being party to Chelle’s contract, as part of efforts to maintain stability in the national team setup.

Earlier reports suggested Chelle was owed three months’ salary and bonuses ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, starting December 21.

A top NFF official, however, dismissed concerns of a prolonged delay, saying outstanding payments would be cleared soon and noting that prior advances had been made for the coach.

Dikko added that the NSC had made provisions in May for salary payments through October via a presidentially approved support arrangement.

Chelle, appointed in January, recently led Nigeria in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, ending in a penalty shootout defeat to DR Congo.

The Super Eagles are now preparing for AFCON, beginning their Group C campaign against Tanzania on December 23 in Fès.
