Former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad (retd.), has died at the age of 71.
He reportedly passed away on Tuesday at a hospital in Saudi Arabia, weeks before his 72nd birthday on December 31. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
Confirmation of his death came through a condolence statement issued in Abuja by the Nigerian Association of Muslim Law Students (NAMLAS), which described his passing as a profound loss to the judiciary, the legal profession, and the nation.
NAMLAS said the late jurist was known for his integrity, humility, and unwavering commitment to justice, adding that his tenure as Chief Justice of Nigeria was marked by wisdom and restraint.
The association extended condolences to his family, the Nigerian judiciary, the Muslim Ummah, and the country at large, while offering prayers for the repose of his soul.
