The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has ordered the prosecution of popular TikTok streamer Habeeb Hamzat, also known as Peller, following a road traffic crash allegedly caused by distracted driving while livestreaming.

The directive was issued by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, after a video widely circulated on social media showed the influencer engaging in a live stream while driving.

The development was confirmed in a statement signed on Monday by the FRSC spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide.

Mohammed said the prosecution would cover offences including reckless driving, use of a mobile phone while driving, and distracted driving, in line with existing traffic regulations.

He described the incident as a serious violation of road safety laws and a danger to other road users.

Stressing that no individual is above the law, the corps marshal warned that livestreaming or any activity that distracts a driver constitutes a breach of traffic rules and poses grave risks to lives.

He also expressed concern over what he described as a growing trend of reckless driving by celebrities and social media influencers, urging entertainment industry bodies to promote responsible conduct among their members.

Mohammed noted that public figures wield significant influence over young people and should model safe behaviour rather than endanger lives for online engagement.

“No social media content or momentary clout is worth a human life,” he said, reaffirming the FRSC’s commitment to enforcing road safety laws and ensuring safer highways.
