The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP), has launched the 10,000 Women in Mobility programme to economically empower women across Nigeria by providing vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles for transport-related businesses.
Targeting women in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, the initiative aims to boost participation in transportation, logistics, delivery services, and other mobility ventures, enhancing financial independence and inclusion.
At the Abuja launch on Friday, Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim said the pilot phase has already empowered 1,000 women, with plans to scale nationwide to 10,000 beneficiaries.
She highlighted that the programme helps women build credible financial histories for future access to credit.
CREDICORP Managing Director Uzoma Nwagba described the initiative as a major step in deepening financial inclusion and integrating financing, training, and business support for beneficiaries.
Stakeholders, including the Minister of State for Labour and Employment Nkeiruka Onyejeocha and the National President of the National Council of Women Society Princess Edna Azura, praised the programme for opening economic opportunities in the transport sector.
The programme has already delivered 300 locally assembled tricycles and is expected to empower 10,000 women nationwide, boosting incomes and growth in mobility-related businesses.
