The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered a major fake drug factory hidden on the top floor of a multi-storey building in Ojo.
The discovery was made on Wednesday during an enforcement raid led by Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh.
Large quantities of counterfeit pharmaceuticals, including fake malaria drugs, syringes and other unregistered medical supplies were recovered.
CP Jimoh said an intensive manhunt is underway for the suspected financier of the operation, identified only as “One Developer.”
He ordered the immediate sealing of the facility, warning that the fake drugs posed serious risks to public health.
He revealed that the syndicate used sophisticated machines to manufacture counterfeit medicines and alter expiry dates on expired products before pushing them back into the market.
A security guard found at the site was arrested and is assisting investigators. Jimoh said the Command is working with NAFDAC and other regulators to ensure full prosecution of those involved.
He urged Lagos residents to buy medicines only from authorised pharmacies and to check expiry dates carefully.
