An Ibom Air flight from Abuja to Lagos on Thursday was forced to return to the capital after poor weather prevented a safe landing.

Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, who was on the flight, said the aircraft took off around 7:10 a.m. but could not land in Lagos after circling for about 30 minutes. The captain later announced a return to Abuja.

“We’re back in Abuja. Two hours in the air. The captain handled it well,” Effiong posted on social media.

Ibom Air has yet to issue a statement on the incident.

The episode adds to recent weather-related disruptions in Nigeria’s aviation sector.

In September, Air Peace reported delays in Lagos and Port Harcourt due to heavy rainfall, citing passenger safety as its top priority.
