As Nigeria prepares to transition to the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), next month, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), with France’s Direction Générale des Finances Publiques (DGFiP), to enhance tax administration and digital transformation.
The agreement was signed Wednesday at the French Embassy in Abuja by FIRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji and French Ambassador Marc Fonbaustier, aiming to strengthen efficient, modern, and resilient tax systems for both countries.
Adedeji said the partnership would leverage France’s expertise in compliance management, taxpayer services, and data-driven enforcement, while France would benefit from Nigeria’s rapid digital adoption and innovative solutions for a tech-savvy population.
The MoU also covers workforce development, international taxation, exchange of information, transfer pricing, and Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS), collaboration. Both countries aim to share innovations, harmonize approaches, and address emerging challenges like AI deployment, cybersecurity, and cross-border taxation.
Adedeji called the pact a cornerstone of Nigeria’s NRS transformation, promising a modern, trusted, and globally connected revenue administration.
