Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has blamed worsening internal crises in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for his decision to resign from the party and join the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Adeleke said he made every effort to stabilise the PDP but the situation “kept falling apart every day.”
His comments came less than 24 hours after he formally defected and emerged as Accord’s governorship candidate during the party’s primary.
“I love the PDP. The party made me a senator and governor,” he said. “But I tried my best to balance the crisis in the party, and everything kept worsening. I had hoped to remain, but one needs a functional platform to contest.”
Adeleke said he left the PDP reluctantly, insisting that persistent disputes made it impossible to seek re-election under its banner.
“I love my state. If one didn’t need a platform to contest, I would have stayed,” he said.
His exit marks a major shift in Osun’s political landscape and is expected to further deepen the PDP’s troubles as the 2026 race gathers momentum.
