Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka has cautioned President Bola Tinubu on the deployment of state security for individuals close to power.

Speaking at the 20th Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism Awards in Lagos on Tuesday, Soyinka recounted seeing what he described as an “excessively large battalion” of armed personnel protecting Seyi Tinubu, the President’s son, at a hotel in Ikoyi.

He called the arrangement “astonishing” and questioned its justification, noting that state security resources are needed more urgently across the country.

Soyinka stressed that children of public officials should not inherit authority or privileges simply through proximity to power, warning against the misuse of public resources for personal protection.
