Former Senate Leader Ali Ndume has commended President Bola Tinubu’s recent security initiatives, saying the measures rolled out since the declaration of a national emergency on insecurity are beginning to show tangible results.
Ndume, in a statement on Wednesday, praised the President’s renewed strategy to reclaim ungoverned spaces and strengthen inter-agency collaboration.
A key step, he noted, is Tinubu’s directive to the Department of State Services to deploy its trained forest guards to assist in tackling bandits hiding in forests and remote locations.
Describing the deployment as a major boost, Ndume said the guards’ specialised training has enhanced military operations and improved coordination among security agencies.
He also lauded recent adjustments to troop welfare and ongoing upgrades in equipment, though he maintained that military remuneration still lags behind regional standards.
The Borno South senator urged the Federal Government to invest more in attack helicopters, armoured personnel carriers and gun trucks to reinforce frontline units.
Ndume also commended Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum for committing over ₦100 billion to support the Army, Police, Civilian JTF and other security formations, a gesture he said other northern governors should emulate.
