Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has formally dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fubara announced his defection on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting at Government House, Port Harcourt.

He said the decision followed extensive consultations with political leaders, traditional rulers and supporters across the state.

According to him, joining the APC will strengthen Rivers’ alignment with the Federal Government and boost cooperation in infrastructure development, security and economic growth.

He added that the move was taken “in the overall interest of Rivers people,” not for personal political gain.

Fubara assured residents that his administration remains committed to stability and good governance, noting that ongoing projects and policies will continue uninterrupted.

APC leaders at the meeting welcomed the governor, describing his entry into the party as a major political development. They pledged full support for his administration.

The meeting was attended by members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers, traditional rulers, youth leaders, and other stakeholders.

The defection marks a significant shift in the political landscape of a state long considered a PDP stronghold.
