Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, says his administration’s commitment to service, discipline and impact-driven governance reflects his belief that the gospel is best preached through actions rather than words.
In a reflection shared on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, Governor Alia said his two years in office have been guided by the biblical principle in James 2:18, which emphasises that faith is demonstrated through works.
He noted that although he is a priest, he avoids using religion as a tool for political image-building, preferring instead to allow results to speak for him.
According to him, leadership rooted in faith must prioritise meeting people’s needs, improving welfare, and restoring dignity to public institutions.
“I do not chase attention or propaganda; I simply get the job done with humility and consistency,” he said.
The Governor’s media aide, Sir Tersoo Kula, noted that despite political distractions and resistance from “disgruntled elements,” the governor has remained focused, delivering reforms and development projects he considers part of a social contract with the Benue people.
Governor Alia also linked his leadership philosophy to Christ’s admonition in Matthew 5:16, which calls believers to let their good works illuminate society.
His administration, he said, has prioritised social welfare, community development and policies that uplift vulnerable groups.
Responding to questions about his dedication to duty, the Governor described his mission as a personal calling to rebuild Benue.
He said he initially believed the state “needed mending,” but later discovered that a complete renewal was necessary.
“I knew the task would be Herculean, yet I accepted it,” he said. “On taking office, I found the situation more deplorable than I imagined. That meant giving my sweat and utmost sacrifice for the state.”
He pledged to continue working tirelessly “until the end of my second term,” stressing that he demands accountability and excellence from his team, just as he remains personally involved in fieldwork, monitoring and evaluation.
“The masses are my motivation,” he said. “When they speak, I hear God’s voice. Their support pushes me forward. I keep moving until we build a new Benue because it is possible.”
Kula concluded that with Governor Alia’s leadership, Benue is on course for renewal and sustained progress.
