The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), has clarified that its C-130 aircraft’s diversion to Burkina Faso on 8 December 2025 was a precautionary landing due to a technical issue shortly after takeoff from Lagos.
The Air Force said the move followed standard safety procedures and international aviation protocols.
All personnel on board are safe and receiving assistance in Bobo-Dioulasso, where the aircraft landed while on a ferry mission to Portugal.
Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, NAF’s Director of Public Relations, explained that the crew acted immediately upon detecting the fault and plans are underway to resume the mission.
The statement emphasized NAF’s commitment to operational and safety standards and appreciated the support received during the incident.
Earlier reports suggested the aircraft had violated Burkina Faso’s airspace, but NAF clarified the landing was purely a safety measure.
