FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has vowed that founding members of the Peoples Democratic Party will not allow recent defectors to destabilise the party, warning that disregard for court orders threatens its future.
Speaking on Sunday at the 104th NEC meeting held at his Abuja residence, Wike condemned a faction of the party for allegedly holding an “illegal convention” despite two subsisting Federal High Court judgments.
He said the group defied the rulings, sought ex-parte orders from a State High Court, and later returned to the Federal High Court for validation.
Wike maintained that no credible opposition party can thrive while undermining judicial processes, adding that the PDP must be protected from “self-serving interests.”
Meanwhile, BoT Chairman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, urged NEC to set up a Caretaker Committee as the tenure of the National Working Committee ends on Monday.
He said the transition aligns with the PDP constitution and is necessary to ensure stability and strengthen internal reforms, including existing caretaker structures in states where congresses are yet to hold.
