Vice President Kashim Shettima on Sunday departed Abuja for Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, to represent President Bola Tinubu at Monday’s swearing-in ceremony of President Alassane Ouattara, who is beginning his fourth term in office.

The inauguration, scheduled for December 8 at the Ivorian Presidential Palace, will be attended by heads of state and dignitaries from across Africa and beyond.

Ouattara won a fourth mandate in the October 25 presidential election, extending his stewardship of the West African nation.

Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire enjoy long-standing diplomatic and economic ties, reinforced through ECOWAS, the African Union, and bilateral cooperation frameworks that cover security, trade, agriculture, and the digital economy.

Shettima is accompanied by ECOWAS Commission President Omar Aliyu Touray; Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Abubakar Sani Bello; and Hon. Usman Zannah of the House of Representatives.
