The West African Centre for Oil Governance (WACOG) says the recent emergence of Nigeria as headquarters of the African Petroleum Regulators Forum (AFRIPERF), alongside the election of NUPRC chief Gbenga Komolafe as chairman, marks a significant boost for Africa’s energy governance.
WACOG described the development as a strong vote of confidence in Nigeria’s push for transparent, modern regulation, noting that it signals growing continental commitment to harmonised upstream standards.
The organisation said the move would strengthen regulatory cohesion, enhance investment security, and amplify Africa’s collective voice on infrastructure, emissions and energy-transition financing.
It urged AFRIPERF member-states to work closely with the new leadership, stressing that shared policies, capacity building and coordinated oversight are vital as global energy dynamics continue to shift.
WACOG called the decision “a defining moment for Africa’s oil governance framework,” adding that Nigeria’s regulatory advancements could help elevate standards and attract major investments across the region.
