Fuji music icon, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has formally declared his interest in the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland.
In a letter dated December 3, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House in Ijebu-Ode, Ayinde said he is a bonafide son of the ruling house, tracing his lineage to Oba Jadiara, and is therefore qualified under Ijebu customary law and the Ogun State Chieftaincy Laws to contest for the throne.
Ayinde, who holds the national honour of MON, highlighted his cultural contributions, noting his longstanding efforts to promote Ijebu heritage through music and public engagements.
He also referenced the chieftaincy titles, Olori Omo-Oba and Otunba Afidipotemole conferred on him in 2023 by the late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona.
His declaration comes as the Fusengbuwa Ruling House begins the formal process of nominating candidates to fill the revered stool, following an official directive from the Awujale Interregnum Administration Council.
The council, in a separate letter, confirmed it is the turn of the Fusengbuwa lineage to present nominees and gave a 14-day deadline for submission.
The succession process will advance on December 2, 2025, when the Ogbeni Odi carries the Awujale’s Staff of Office, marking a key stage in the rites.
The council urged the ruling house to conduct the selection peacefully and transparently, noting the importance of preserving unity around the historic throne.
The late Oba Adetona, who reigned for over six decades, left a significant vacuum in Ijebuland and Nigeria’s traditional leadership.
With Wasiu Ayinde’s entry, the race for the stool is expected to attract broad public interest.
