Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has dismissed reports linking him to terrorism financing, describing the allegations as false, malicious, and aimed at damaging his reputation.

In a statement on Saturday, December 6, 2025, Emefiele said the publication that listed him among alleged sponsors of terrorism was “completely fabricated” and not backed by any evidence.

He warned that such claims undermine the seriousness of Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.

Emefiele stressed that he has never engaged in, been invited, or investigated for any terrorism-related activity, adding that he has no connection to the individual who made the allegations.

“There is absolutely no truth in these claims,” he said, accusing unnamed actors of peddling falsehoods for ulterior motives.

He urged Nigerians to disregard the report and called on media organisations to verify facts before publishing sensitive national security information.
