Senate President Godswill Akpabio has rejected a ₦40 billion defamation suit instituted against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing the case as baseless and driven by “persistent social media allegations.”
In a statement, Akpabio said the lawsuit lacked merit, arguing that the claims stemmed from Akpoti-Uduaghan’s repeated online accusations, which he termed “speculative and unfounded.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan had sought damages over alleged defamatory statements and previous disputes involving misconduct claims, harassment allegations, and multiple counter-suits between both lawmakers.
Akpabio maintained that he would challenge the suit in court and insisted that it should be dismissed for being “instigated by unverified social media claims.”
