The Defence Headquarters has assured residents of the Federal Capital Territory that Abuja remains safe despite reports of planned terrorist attacks on the city and surrounding areas.

Speaking at the bi-weekly briefing on military operations nationwide, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General M. E. Onoja, dismissed the alleged threats and urged the public to remain calm.

Onoja said the FCT is protected by a “robust security architecture,” adding that the military, working with other security agencies, is fully prepared to repel any attempted incursion.

Neighbouring states such as Kogi and Niger have recently suffered multiple attacks, raising fears that terrorists may extend their operations to Abuja.

But General Onoja maintained that the Armed Forces would not allow such threats to materialize.

“Abuja and its environs are safe and secure. We are aware of the presence of criminal elements around, but there is no cause for alarm. We are on top of the situation,” he said.

He urged residents to go about their daily activities without fear.
