President Bola Tinubu has forwarded an expanded list of 65 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation. Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the request during Thursday’s plenary.
The updated list contains 34 career ambassadors and high commissioners and 31 non-career nominees.
All nominees have been referred to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs for screening, which is expected to be concluded within one week.
The fresh submission follows the presidency’s earlier list of 32 nominees released last week. Newly added non-career nominees include former lawmakers Ita Enang (Akwa Ibom), Jimoh Ibrahim (Ondo), Folasade Bent (Adamawa), and Segun Ige (Edo).
Three earlier nominees, Kayode Are (Ogun), Aminu Dalhatu (Jigawa), and Ayodele Oke (Oyo), had already been screened by the committee before the updated list was transmitted.
The inclusion of additional names brings the total number of ambassadorial nominees awaiting Senate approval to 65.
