The U.S. House Appropriations Committee will on Tuesday hold a joint congressional briefing in Washington, D.C., on the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

According to a notice shared by Congressman Riley Moore on X, the session will be convened by Committee Vice Chair and National Security Subcommittee Chairman Mario Díaz-Balart, alongside members of the Appropriations, Foreign Affairs, and Financial Services Committees.

Representatives from the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom and other experts are expected to give testimony.

The briefing aims to “spotlight escalating violence and targeted persecution of Christians in Nigeria” and gather input for a comprehensive report “directed by President Trump on the massacre of Nigerian Christians and steps Congress can take to support White House efforts to protect vulnerable faith communities worldwide.”

The session comes amid deepening U.S.-Nigeria security cooperation, following Nigeria’s approval of its delegation to the new U.S.-Nigeria Joint Working Group on counterterrorism, intelligence sharing, border security, and humanitarian coordination.

Rising concerns over terrorism, banditry, and attacks on Christian communities have intensified scrutiny from U.S. lawmakers and renewed calls for stronger protections for religious minorities.
