President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated General Christopher Gwabin Musa as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence.

In a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu announced Musa’s nomination to succeed Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who resigned on Monday.

General Musa, 58, a distinguished soldier and former Chief of Defence Staff (2023-2025), received the Colin Powell Award for Soldiering in 2012.

Born in Sokoto in 1967, he graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1991 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.

He has held key positions including Commanding Officer of 73 Battalion, Deputy Chief of Staff, Training/Operations at the Infantry Centre, Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole’s Sector 3, and Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai.

In his letter, President Tinubu expressed confidence in General Musa’s ability to lead the Ministry of Defence and strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.
