The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has inaugurated a new caretaker committee for Enugu State, following major political shifts in the state.

The inauguration, held Sunday in Enugu, was conducted by factional acting National Chairman Alhaji Abdulraham Mohameed and National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, with party members from all 17 LGAs in attendance.

The move follows Governor Peter Mbah’s defection to the APC on October 24, 2025, alongside the state executive council and PDP leadership, a development that ended the party’s dominance in Enugu since 1999.

Former Igboeze South Council Chairman Vitus Okechi was sworn in as caretaker chairman, with Chukwunonye Okereke as secretary. Their mandate is to rebuild the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Okechi pledged to restore party unity and grassroots strength, declaring, “Enugu State is PDP, and PDP is Enugu State… Returning to the Lion Building in 2027 is fait accompli.”

Okereke emphasised integrity and inclusive leadership, while other stakeholders urged loyalty and consistency as the committee begins consultations across the state.
