The Lagos State Government says the Olusosun and Solous III dumpsites will be fully decommissioned within 18 months. Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this during an inspection tour, noting that new, sustainable waste facilities are being developed in Badagry, Ikorodu and Epe.
Through a public-private partnership with Zoomlion Nigeria Limited, the state will establish Transfer Loading Stations and Material Recovery Facilities to divert waste from traditional landfills.
The shift is expected to reduce environmental and health risks for nearby communities while supporting recycling, composting and waste-to-energy initiatives.
Whether Lagos meets the 18-month deadline remains uncertain, but the plan marks a significant overhaul of waste management in the state.
