Bandits have kidnapped seven residents of Gidan-Bijimi in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, in a fresh attack that has heightened fear in the community.
The victims, six girls and a 16-year-old boy were seized around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, while attending a burial ceremony.
Witnesses said the attackers, armed with AK-47 rifles, stormed two houses and whisked the victims away amid heavy gunfire, forcing many residents to flee into nearby bushes for safety.
The incident occurred just days after FCT Minister Nyesom Wike relaunched Operation Sweep to boost surveillance and curb rising insecurity in the capital.
It also came barely 24 hours after FCT Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, reassured residents of renewed efforts to secure border communities.
The latest abduction adds to growing concerns over repeated attacks in the FCT, despite the Federal Government’s recent declaration of a nationwide security emergency and plans to recruit additional police and military personnel.
