Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has warned Nigerian Navy personnel that he will not tolerate any form of collusion with crude oil thieves, urging officers and ratings to uphold discipline and professionalism.
During his familiarisation visit to NNS Delta in Warri, Delta State, on Monday, Abbas stressed that naval operations are central to national security, noting that Nigeria’s oil resources, the backbone of its economy lie within the maritime domain.
He cautioned that anyone aiding oil thieves should leave the service, insisting they would still be caught if they attempted to cooperate openly with criminal networks.
Abbas reiterated that officers must “ship in or shape out,” declaring that indiscipline will not be condoned.
The visit, he said, was to assess operations, welfare and challenges affecting personnel.
He identified accommodation shortages as a major concern and assured officers that welfare remains a priority, though discipline and loyalty are key to achieving the Navy’s mission.
Abbas reaffirmed the Navy’s core values of professionalism, integrity and teamwork, promising that hard work will be rewarded and misconduct sanctioned.
He also highlighted the importance of collaboration with host communities, noting that local intelligence is vital to securing the maritime environment and boosting national revenue.
