The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old suspected member of a proscribed secessionist group, Friday Nnamdi Anyikame, during an intelligence-led operation in Ihiala LGA.

Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, apprehended the suspect on November 20, 2025, recovering two pump-action guns and 29 live cartridges.

Preliminary investigations revealed he allegedly belongs to an armed faction operating from a criminal camp in Ogbaru LGA.

Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu has ordered intensified raids across the state, describing the arrest as a major step toward dismantling armed networks responsible for insecurity.

The command urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information.

This latest arrest follows earlier breakthroughs, including the October detention of a 62-year-old alleged informant accused of extorting traders and funnelling proceeds to a terrorist camp.
