Four members of a family were burnt to death on Wednesday when a fire engulfed their home at Kundila Layin Baba Impossible in Tarauni Local Government Area, Kano State.

Kano State Fire Service spokesperson Saminu Abdullahi said the blaze was reported around 4:13 a.m.

Firefighters arrived to find the ground-floor building, measuring 40 by 30 feet, fully ablaze, destroying two bedrooms, a parlour, a kitchen, and a toilet.

The victims included 43-year-old father Shodandi, his 30-year-old wife Rafi’a, and their daughters, three-year-old Mardiya and one-and-a-half-year-old Yusira. A 12-year-old boy, Aminu Shodandi, was rescued.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was caused by a mosquito coil the family had lit before sleeping.

The Fire Service expressed condolences and urged residents to exercise caution with fire sources, particularly during the harmattan season.
