The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has condemned the attack on Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State, where gunmen killed worshippers and abducted several others during a prayer service.

In a statement on Thursday, CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh described the incident as a “heartbreaking reminder” of worsening insecurity facing Christian communities.

He expressed solidarity with victims’ families and the Eruku community, saying, “Their pain is our collective pain, and their trauma is one no community of faith should ever endure.”

CAN urged security agencies to swiftly rescue the abducted, apprehend the perpetrators, and carry out a transparent investigation.

The group also called on authorities to provide immediate medical, emotional, and material support to the victims.

Highlighting gaps in Nigeria’s security strategy, CAN stressed the need for stronger protection of places of worship and appealed to religious and community leaders to maintain calm and prevent reprisals.

The association said it will continue monitoring developments and working with authorities to ensure justice and better protection for Christian communities nationwide.
