Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has dismissed claims that genocide is occurring in the state, urging the public not to misinterpret ongoing security challenges.
Speaking at a public function on Wednesday, Alia said Benue is not witnessing any form of religious, ethnic, racial, or state-targeted extermination.
“Do we have insecurity in the state? Yes, we do, but it is not a genocide,” he stated.
The governor, a Catholic priest, said his commitment to truth and moral responsibility guides his leadership.
“I am a Reverend Father… working with the fear of God and the compassion of Christianity and humanity,” he added.
