An 18-seater bus conveying prospective NYSC members from the Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo, crashed on Wednesday while heading to the Gombe orientation camp.
The accident reportedly occurred along a northern highway after the vehicle lost control and veered off the road. About 16 of the 18 passengers, including the driver, are feared dead, while two others are in critical condition.
The tragedy has thrown families and the school community into mourning.
The Federal Road Safety Corps has begun investigating the cause of the crash. As of press time, the NYSC and government authorities have yet to issue official statements.
The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of corps members travelling long distances for national service.
