Fifty-four solid waste management contractors recently hired by the FCT Administration have finally resumed cleaning and evacuation of refuse across the Federal Capital Territory.

The resumption follows an emergency meeting on Saturday with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who instructed the contractors to immediately improve sanitation and warned against excuses.

Monitoring the exercise on Monday, Enwerem Benjamin, Director of Solid Waste Management (North), at the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), said the operation aligns with the minister’s directive to keep the city clean.

He added that regular inspections would ensure proper deployment of equipment and personnel.

Benjamin also urged residents without proper waste bins to acquire one and avoid indiscriminate dumping.

Some residents have expressed hope that the cleaning exercise will be sustained.
