First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has called for strengthened national efforts to protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse, saying safeguarding young people must be a shared responsibility.

Speaking in Abuja at the 2025 World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, she said families, communities, institutions and leaders must work together to create safe environments for children.

“As a nation, we must ensure that every child grows up free from fear and harm,” she said, stressing that protection requires coordinated action backed by accurate data, research and evidence-based policies.

The global observance, held every November 18, was established by the Council of Europe in 2015 and recognised by the United Nations in 2022 to raise awareness, promote prevention and support survivors.
