The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), has partnered with the Abuja City Journal (ACJ), to sponsor the 3rd edition of the National Essay Competition, an initiative aimed at promoting literacy, critical thinking, and academic excellence among Nigerian students.

The competition is expected to attract students from across the country, offering them a platform to showcase their writing skills while engaging with key societal issues.

FIRS’ involvement underscores the agency’s commitment to supporting educational initiatives and nurturing young talent.

Speaking on the partnership, a FIRS staff, who spoke anonymously, emphasized that sponsoring the competition aligns with the agency’s corporate social responsibility goals.

“We are proud to support initiatives that empower young Nigerians. The National Essay Competition not only fosters creativity and critical thinking but also prepares students to contribute meaningfully to national development,” the spokesperson said.

ACJ’s editorial team described the collaboration as a timely boost to the competition, noting that the involvement of a reputable institution like FIRS will elevate the event’s profile and inspire participants to strive for excellence.

The 2025 edition will feature a panel of distinguished judges, including educators, writers, and public figures, and will be hosted by renowned comedian and entertainer Kenny Blaq, who is expected to blend education with entertainment while maintaining the academic decorum of the event.

Organizers encouraged students from all educational levels to participate, highlighting that the competition offers not just recognition but also mentorship opportunities and prizes for outstanding essays.

The National Essay Competition continues to serve as a platform for cultivating the next generation of thinkers, writers, and leaders in Nigeria, with FIRS’ sponsorship reinforcing the importance of private-public partnerships in advancing education.
