The Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), has begun a citywide sanitation exercise after engaging 54 new solid waste-management contractors across the Federal Capital Territory.
The initiative, officials said during an inspection tour, is part of the FCTA’s renewed push to improve cleanliness and ensure more efficient waste evacuation.
The contractors have been assigned to various districts with a mandate to clear accumulated refuse and strengthen routine waste collection.
AEPB noted that the drive aligns with the FCTA’s directive to curb recurring waste buildup and enforce higher environmental hygiene standards.
Contractors are expected to meet strict performance benchmarks as the administration works to establish a more reliable waste-management system.
Residents were urged to support the exercise by disposing of waste properly and avoiding indiscriminate dumping that blocks roads and drains.
The operation will continue across designated districts in the coming days.
