The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has warned it will resume a nationwide strike if the Federal Government fails to meet its demands within a one-month ultimatum.

ASUU Kano Zonal Coordinator, Abdulkadir Muhammad, made the warning Monday in Kano, noting that negotiations with the government have been slow.

The union had in October suspended a warning strike to give the government time to address lecturers’ welfare and improve teaching and learning conditions.

Muhammad described the government’s approach as sluggish and misleading, saying officials have yet to show genuine commitment to improving lecturers’ working conditions or curbing the brain drain affecting public universities.

He also dismissed claims that ASUU’s demands have already been met.

The coordinator called for a moratorium on establishing new state universities, arguing that many are underfunded by their founders.

Representatives from several universities, including ABU, BUK, KASU, ADUSTECH, FUD, NWU Kano, and SLUK, attended the meeting.
