St. Luke’s Catholic Parish, Kubwa, has elected Mrs. Chizoba Okonkwo as the new Laity Council President, making her the second woman to lead the council after Lady Dr. Comfort Alegieuno.

Mrs. Okonkwo succeeds Bro. Kenneth Eze, whose four-year tenure recorded notable achievements, including the procurement of 200 plastic chairs, purchase of two smart TVs, connection of the parish to community water supply, execution of the Parish Uniform Project, and the introduction of the annual St. Thomas More Quiz and Football Competitions.

Over 60 percent of the new executives served in the outgoing council, ensuring continuity. Other elected officers include Mr. Dominic Akamo (Vice President), Bro. Peter Wonah Odey (Secretary), Bro. Peter Amoke (Assistant Secretary), Bro. Donatus Asuelimen (Financial Secretary), Sis. Lilian Chukwumalume (Treasurer), Sis. Omajala Patience (Welfare Officer), Bro. Francis Okonkwo (PRO), and Bro. David Yese (Provost).

The election was supervised by Sir A.K. Peters and Engr. Queen Ezechinyere, while the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Celestine Eze, offered prayers and guidance before proceedings.

Reacting to the development, former Laity Council Chairperson, Lady Dr. Comfort Alegieuno, expressed joy, noting that Mrs. Okonkwo’s experience as a former CWO President positions her for success.

Parishioners are optimistic that the new administration will build on the gains recorded and usher in another phase of steady growth.
