The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has hired 54 contractors to handle waste management across Abuja as part of efforts to tackle sanitation challenges in the capital.
Announcing the move in Abuja, Wike also ordered the creation of a task force to monitor the contractors’ performance, warning that only strict supervision will keep the city clean.
He directed all waste management teams to work weekends, noting that sanitation should not be restricted to weekdays.
Extending evacuation to Saturdays and Sundays, he said, will help clear persistent refuse buildup in major districts.
Wike reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring order and maintaining high environmental standards, adding that stricter enforcement and closer oversight of service providers will follow.
