One person died and six others were injured in a stampede at the Gusau residence of Defence Minister Bello Matawalle on Thursday evening, security sources confirmed.
The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. when a large crowd gathered to welcome the minister, resulting in chaotic pushing within the premises.
Victims were taken to Farida General Hospital, where 23-year-old Khalifa Uzairu was confirmed dead on arrival.
The injured, identified as Ayuba Sani, Muhammadu Adams, Aliyu Aminu, Shaaban Hamisu and Inusa Musa Shehu are receiving treatment and are in stable condition, hospital officials said.
Security operatives have been deployed to restore order as investigations begin into the cause of the stampede.
Authorities urged residents to remain calm and adhere to safety protocols during public gatherings.
