Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has removed the traditional rulers of Ososo and Ikpeshi/Egbegere clans in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area.
Those affected are Bamidele Obaitan of Ososo Kingdom and Zaiki Luckman Odamah III of the Ikpeshi/Egbegere clan. Their dismissal was announced Thursday in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhlor.
Both men were directed to immediately hand over all government properties and instruments of office to the Akoko-Edo Local Government chairman.
The government said the action followed a review of disputes over the leadership of both communities and was taken in the interest of peace and due process.
Governor Okpebholo appointed Nicholas Odamah as regent of Ikpeshi/Egbegere, while elders and chiefs of Ososo were instructed to present a consensus candidate for the vacant stool through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
