The Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, has called for stronger collaboration between the aviation sector and the judiciary to enhance understanding and enforcement of aviation contract laws, especially the Cape Town Convention (CTC).

Najomo made the call at the grand finale of the International CTC Moot Court Competition held at the Federal High Court, Abuja. Represented by Capt. Donald Tonye Spiff, NCAA’s Director of Operations, Licensing, and Training, he said the CTC has boosted Nigeria’s credibility among aircraft lessors and investors.

He noted that before Nigeria’s adoption of the CTC, aircraft manufacturers and leasing firms were reluctant to deal with local airlines due to weak contract enforcement.

“This programme shows that Nigeria is ready and open for business,” Najomo said, commending the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN), for his support.

The event, jointly organised by the Aviation Ministry and the NCAA with support from the Aviation Working Group (AWG), featured 18 universities.

The final contest between the University of Benin and the University of Lagos saw Osauyi Temiloluwa Agbonwaneten of UNIBEN emerge as overall winner.
