Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has debunked reports alleging he gifted a Toyota SUV to Lieutenant Ahmed Yerima, the naval officer involved in a recent altercation with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
In a statement on Thursday, Atiku’s Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, described the claim as “completely false and baseless,” urging the public to disregard it.
“His Excellency Atiku Abubakar did not gift Lt. Ahmed Yerima or anyone else a brand-new Toyota SUV,” Ibe clarified.
The false report, which circulated on social media, alleged that Atiku rewarded Yerima after his confrontation with Wike over a disputed land in Gaduwa, Abuja.
A viral video had shown the minister and the officer in a heated argument, with Yerima insisting he was protecting naval property.
The incident has since drawn public reactions, with calls for calm and institutional respect.
