Flight operations at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, were briefly disrupted on Thursday after a private jet’s tyre burst during landing, prompting a temporary runway closure.
Authorities confirmed the aircraft has since been removed, and normal operations resumed. The incident reportedly occurred around 2:00 p.m.
Michael Achimugu, NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, described the disruption as minor.
“The private aircraft experienced a tyre burst on landing, but it has been cleared off the runway and operations are back to normal,” he said.
The cause of the tyre burst remains unclear, and officials have not indicated if an investigation will follow.
This follows previous runway incidents at Abuja airport, including an Aero Contractors flight stuck while exiting the runway in November 2023 and an Allied Air cargo plane skidding off Runway 22 in December 2024.
