The Coalition of Federal Pensioners of Nigeria has threatened to stage a nationwide naked protest on November 24 over unpaid pension arrears and palliative allowances.
Speaking in Lagos on Tuesday, the coalition’s chairman, Mukaila Ogunbote, said the protest would hold if the Federal Government failed to pay the approved ₦32,000 pension increment and ₦25,000 palliative allowance.
Ogunbote, who also leads the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NIPOST Chapter), said pensioners in the diaspora would join the demonstration in solidarity.
He appealed to President Bola Tinubu to direct the release of funds, lamenting that many retirees were dying or suffering due to economic hardship.
“If by November 23 we don’t receive payment, pensioners nationwide will embark on a naked protest,” he warned.
