The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has called on President Bola Tinubu to caution FCT Minister Nyesom Wike following a viral video showing him verbally assaulting a military officer on duty.

In a statement signed by National President Comrade Atiku Isah, NANS described Wike’s actions as “disrespectful and arrogant,” noting that the officer was merely executing lawful orders. “The officer’s composure and restraint demonstrate the discipline of the Nigerian military,” the statement said.

NANS accused Wike of attempting to encroach on land belonging to a former Chief of Naval Staff and said the minister should have sought dialogue rather than public confrontation. “It is unbecoming of the minister to speak disrespectfully. The Naval Chief deserves respect and should have been engaged through proper channels,” the statement added.

The students’ body warned that it would not remain silent when public officials insult those who have served the nation in uniform.
