Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has dismissed claims of an alleged plot to impeach Senate President Godswill Akpabio, describing them as false and divisive.
Speaking during plenary on Wednesday, Bamidele said no senator had discussed or attempted Akpabio’s removal, stressing that the upper chamber remains united and focused on national issues.
“There was no attempt or discussion to remove the Senate President. We are united and will not be distracted by rumours,” he said.
His response followed comments by former Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu, who told journalists that although some senators once considered unseating Akpabio, the idea was dropped to preserve unity.
Kalu urged colleagues to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration through people-oriented legislation, adding that the Senate is “one big family.”
Bamidele reaffirmed that the chamber is stable and committed to addressing issues affecting Nigerians, insisting, “There is no crisis and no plan to remove anyone.”
