The Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted one David Udensik, alias Dr. Jacob Bello, for defrauding a U.S.-based energy firm of over $1 million in a fake oil deal.

Police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin said the conviction followed a petition alleging that Udensik posed as a crude oil facilitator in Nigeria.

Investigations by the Police National Cybercrime Centre revealed he ran a fraud network between 2018 and 2023, using forged NNPCL documents and other fake regulatory papers to deceive victims.

The court, in its October 22, 2025 ruling, found him guilty of forgery, obtaining by false pretence, and money laundering, ordering the forfeiture of assets worth hundreds of millions of naira.

Hundeyin quoted the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, as commending the team’s professionalism and reaffirming the Force’s resolve to combat cyber-enabled oil fraud.
